KaufmanCourt.us provides a convenient way to search for publicly available information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official website of the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, by calling the jail, or visiting it in person. Searching the roster allows you to find out the detainee's name, charges, booking date, and custody status.

Online Search

Find Kaufman Jail Booking Records Online

When an officer brings an arrested person to the Kaufman County detention facility, the Intake Division creates a booking record. This document records key arrest data and becomes the basis for further criminal proceedings.

The booking record includes:

  • A unique booking number
  • The date and time of admission to the jail
  • A list of charges
  • The name of the arresting agency (city police, sheriff, DPS, etc.)
  • Basic identification data of the detainee

These records are public under the Texas Public Information Act. They can be obtained in several ways:

  1. Through the online inmate roster — the sheriff's website usually displays basic booking data for individuals in custody.
  2. Through an open records request — if more detailed information or records of released individuals are needed, submit a request under the Public Information Act. Send requests by mail to: Attn: Civil Division – Open Records, PO Box 729, Kaufman, TX 75142.
  3. Through the County Clerk's Office — court records (except for mental health and juvenile cases) are available for free viewing.

Search the Kaufman Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the detainee's last name. Adding a first name narrows the results if the last name is common. A few tips:

  • Check spelling — even one letter mistake can result in zero results.
  • If the exact spelling is unknown, try just the last name without the first name.
  • Remember that data is entered by legal name from documents; nicknames or shortened forms of names are not recognized by the system.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate identifier. It provides one specific result without confusion with namesakes.

If the Search Yields No Results

The absence of a record does not necessarily mean the person was not detained. Possible reasons:

  • The detainee has already been released — the record disappears from the current roster.
  • The processing is not yet complete, and the data has not appeared in the system.
  • The last name was entered incorrectly or in a different transliteration.

In such cases, call the jail directly or use KaufmanCourt.us for a broader search.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Kaufman

The Kaufman County inmate roster is updated periodically throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. Between the actual admission of a detainee and the appearance of their record in the online system, it can take from a few hours to an entire shift — depending on the workload of the Intake Division.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Publication delay. New records do not appear immediately after arrest. If the arrest happened recently, give the system time.
  • Only current inmates. The roster displays individuals currently in custody. It is not an archive of all past bookings.
  • Released individuals disappear. After a person is released (on bail, by court decision, or after serving time), their record is removed from the current list.
  • Entry errors. Sometimes last names are entered with typographical errors, complicating the search.

To obtain archival records or data on individuals who have already been released, submit an official request through the open records procedure. Some records may be exempt for law enforcement and not subject to disclosure — you will be informed of this in the response to the request.
